The Boone County Conservation District (BCCD) is saddened to announce that one of its facilities was destroyed by fire late Saturday night.The structure and all contents were a complete loss.
The BCCD expresses its deepest gratitude to the first responders who acted at the scene last night.Specifically, Boone County Fire District 1 – Capron Fire, Capron Rescue Squad; Fire District 3 – North Boone Fire, and Boone County Fire District 2. Boone County Sheriff’s Department also responded. We also want to thank neighbors of the site for calling the fire in and providing information to the Fire Chief and Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Thank you all for your service to this community!!
The barn was being used to store conservation district equipment that was not in use during the winter season. The Piscasaw Conservation Area was closed to public use and the gate to the site was locked at the time the fire was discovered.The barn area is cordoned off with caution tape and the gate to the site is locked.Neighbors are keeping the site under a watchful eye.
At this point in time our inventory of equipment or materials destroyed or damaged by the fire includes:
1. A 5610 Ford tractor with front end loader
2. A Woods HS105 boom mower
3. A Woods (brush hog) 3pt. mower
4. A pull behind road grader
5. A 7’ Truax no-till drill (seeder)
6. A gravity wagon
7. A custom wooden wagon (~ 10-12 person people mover)
8. A stack of oak hardwood flooring
9. Pellet stove
The value of these assets and the building are believed to exceed $450,000 with actual insurance estimates pending.The cause of the fire is not known as the investigation is ongoing. This summarizes what we know.We will post additional information as we learn more.
